Though there is not the variety in the meat/marinated meat selections, about every other department is much more extensive. There is a greater fruit selection and fresher produce selection. HMart here in Burlington does not carry very fresh produce/root vegetables, etc. T&T has cooked items, an amazing array of ready-made foods to grab and go... like sushi, assembled packages to make soup or a meal without assembling it yourself! I am asian and live in Boston now and visit HMart maybe once every other week. If T&T were here, I might be there every other day getting something. As a reference point, T&T is like the Wegman's asian supermarkets.Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02691430570705547419noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17422713.post-18021838548424421912010-08-23T14:30:07.311-04:002010-08-23T14:30:07.311-04:00I have no idea how T&T compares to H-Mart sinc...I have no idea how T&T compares to H-Mart since I've never been to T&T (we don't have them in the Boston area). It looks like they are similar in concept.Helenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12271344371852988017noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17422713.post-90967751548150148742010-08-23T14:26:28.344-04:002010-08-23T14:26:28.344-04:00http://www.tnt-supermarket.com/

But no, I rarely go there.
I once bought some 'fresh' squid that was not fresh. I usually buy my pantry items, some veggies there but produce wise, it will never be like a nice super88 (or what it used to be). It is Korean (and serve mainly korean. All that kimchi and prepared food) and therefore lacks a lot of chinese veggies/ herbs. Nobody speaks English there. I once asked for thai curry paste and the guy I talked to said they did not sell that. I found it a few minutes later on my own.
For fish sauce, I recommend Viet Huong brand (three crabs). Notice the patterns of name one crab, 2 crabs, 3 crabs, 3 fish, they are trying to fool customers.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02157989074996505078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17422713.post-41229796453418036852010-05-15T17:57:05.304-04:002010-05-15T17:57:05.304-04:00Hi Helen,
Thanks for the report on H-Mart.

I usually go after work on a Thursday night around 5pm, not too crowded then either.
I do like their produce section also, but you do have to check for freshness and compare prices. I buy a box of Spring Greens at Costco for 4.99 and although the same brand is 3.99 at H Mart, it's half the weight in the package. I found a fish sauce that I like a lot, it came recommended from a chowhound. The writing on the label is not English, but there is a picture of 3 fish on the front.
I do find everything pretty overwhelming when I go, mostly because I can't find anyone to help that speaks English that works there.
H-Mart is pretty close to me and I will continue to go, but I am not as thrilled as I thought I would be.
Congrats on the new baby coming, when is she/he due?
Mary CelonaTaste the Rainbowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12735347798641258202noreply@blogger.com
